Practical planning support, shaped around the task and the people using it.

A teacher planning agent in Copilot Studio and Microsoft Teams, and a separate auto planner.

Understand

Start with the work.

Education planning involves repetitive preparation as well as professional judgement. I explored how tools could support different parts of that preparation, while fitting the school’s requirements.

My contribution included process mapping, tool development, requirements and options assessment. For the planning agent, I worked with school leadership and an assistant principal on testing and rollout.

Adapt

The right solution has to fit.

The initial agent was a locally hosted prototype built with AI coding assistance and API calls. I stopped it before rollout because it did not meet the school’s platform, data handling and support needs.

I revisited the requirements with school leadership and worked with an assistant principal to rebuild, test and introduce the agent in Copilot Studio through Microsoft Teams. The platform choice followed those requirements.

Two distinct tools

Different workflows. A shared purpose.

Teacher planning agent

Planning support through Copilot Studio and Microsoft Teams. I adapted the agent to the school’s requirements and worked with an assistant principal on testing and staff rollout.

Auto Planner

Brings together VCAA and ARC materials into a planning starting point. The Foundation example organises English and Mathematics by term and week, with curriculum references and links to lesson resources. I built it to reduce the time spent finding materials and setting up plans.

Support

Help people put it into practice.

Building the agent was one part of the work. Testing with an assistant principal and supporting its introduction through Teams helped connect the tool with the people who would use it.

Reported outcome

From hours to minutes on supported tasks.

Reported time savings vary by task and tool. The planning agent and auto planner work differently, so there is no single timing comparison that applies to both.

These are self-reported reductions in supported preparation work, rather than a measurement of the whole teaching-planning process.
